A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Lycoming County Election Department regarding the list of candidates running for the upcoming spring election on February 5, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs at Lycoming News, we requested specific records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., preferably in an electronic format.
The information sought includes a detailed list of all candidates vying for various offices in the forthcoming elections. The specifics requested are the first, middle, and last names of the candidates; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation.
Additionally, we have asked for all contact information available for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As such, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
