Senate committee to discuss strategies against blight in Northumberland County

A hearing is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Northumberland County Administration Center in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. The event aims to examine effective strategies and explore new opportunities to combat blight.

The session will begin at 10 a.m. with welcome and opening remarks by Senator David G. Argall, Chairman of the Senate Majority Policy Committee, alongside Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver.

Following the introductions, several panelists will present their insights. These include Brianna Apfelbaum Kula, Esq., Mike McLaughlin from the Shamokin Mayoral Blight Task Force, Derrick Backer who serves as City Administrator for Sunbury, and Lisa Dooley from Bloomsburg. Other notable participants are Patrick A. Mack of the Housing Authority of Northumberland County; Meghan Beck, a County Commissioner; Jennifer Wakeman from DRIVE; Mary Beth Dougherty of the Statewide Blight Task Force; Aaron Zappia representing PA Housing Alliance; and Edward B. Manning from the Shamokin Area Economic Development Authority.

A roundtable discussion is set for 11 a.m., providing an opportunity for an exchange of ideas among attendees on addressing blight effectively.

The hearing will conclude with closing remarks and adjournment at noon.
