State Senator Gene Yaw and State Representative Clint Owlett have announced that two businesses in Tioga County have been awarded funding through the Agricultural Innovation Grant Program. This program is the first of its kind in the nation.
"Funding from this first-of-its-kind program will give our local farmers and agribusinesses access to cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices to enhance their operations and increase efficiency," stated Yaw. "I’m pleased to see this significant state investment in our region’s agriculture sector."
Owlett emphasized the importance of agriculture, stating, "Agriculture is such an important part of our history and heritage, but it is an equally important part of our future. Technology has created a lot of opportunities for our farmers and agribusiness leaders, and I’m excited to see some of our local innovators receive these well-earned investments from the Commonwealth."
Painterland Farms, a multi-generational farm in Tioga County that founded Painterland Sisters Organic Skyr Yogurt in 2020, received $475,000 for its Regenerative Farming Innovations project. Woodland Biomass Innovations was granted $50,000 for site planning a biomass-to-fuel facility aimed at producing gasoline compatible with existing vehicles and infrastructure.
The Agricultural Innovation Grant is managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. It aims to assist farmers and agricultural businesses in implementing new technologies related to agriculture, conservation, and renewable energy innovations.
