Penn College freshman Casey Keiter achieved a podium finish at the Easton Collegiate Trophy Tournament, marking the start of the archery season. Keiter secured third place in the men's bowhunter category, leading a team of eight Wildcats.
In addition to Keiter's performance, Josiah Hinojos finished sixth, Wyatt Steigerwalt 17th, and Travis Lilly 19th in the same event. In the men's compound category, Matthew Byrnes placed sixth, Brady Buriak 10th, and Emery Gunsallus 14th. Liz Gruodis competed in the collegiate female compound and finished 21st.
Coach Dustin Bartron commented on the tournament: "The Easton shoot is a great collegiate season kickoff. It was good to see the archers adjusting from our indoor range to competing on a line with 600 others. Many adjusted well, with one podium (Keiter) and four top-ten finishes."
Bartron also noted that there are three weeks for skill refinement before their next competition: "We have three weeks to hone our skills and shoot at the indoor nationals." He added that many archers gained valuable experience competing against colleges and universities nationwide.
The Penn College team will next participate in the USA Archery Indoor Nationals from February 21-23 in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
