Penn College hosted its invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday, where the team finished third among eight teams with a total of 130 points. The college celebrated two individual champions, including Nick Woodruff, who was named the most outstanding wrestler.
Nick Woodruff claimed victory in the 197-pound category, while Kaden Ware secured a win at 133 pounds. Justin Adams earned second place for Penn College at 125 pounds. Blake Dergham and Luke Heimbach both achieved third-place finishes in their respective weight classes.
In his matches, Woodruff maintained an undefeated record of 4-0. His performance included an initial fall in 1:28, followed by consecutive technical falls with scores of 16-0 and 15-0. He concluded his day with a narrow 13-10 decision against Castleton's Josh Negron.
Kaden Ware also went undefeated at 4-0. He started with a pin in just under two minutes and continued with a major decision win of 19-6. Ware then pinned another opponent in slightly over two minutes before securing his title with a technical fall victory over Stone Farnsworth from Castleton.
Justin Adams had a strong start to his day, winning three matches consecutively before losing the final match to Marymount's Ian Morales by a score of 4-1.
Blake Dergham recorded three wins and one loss during the event. After winning by fall and major decision, he lost to Farnsworth but ended his day with a decisive victory over Alvernia's James King.
Luke Heimbach matched Dergham’s record of three wins and one loss. His efforts included starting off with a technical fall win followed by a pin before being defeated by Morales. He then narrowly won against Scranton's Joseph Cappello.
Other notable performances for Penn College included Nicholai Brotzman finishing all four wins by falls; TJ Martin achieving four wins; Gavin Gomes winning three times; Aiden Osborne, Isaac McGregor, and Josh Howard each winning twice; while Ayden Sprague finished sixth after one win.
Castleton emerged as the leading team with 160 points, followed closely by Alvernia at 132 points and Penn College at third place. The rest of the field consisted of Marymount University (105), Scranton (89.5), Thaddeus Stevens (34.5), Waynesburg (33), and Randolph College (17).
The next competition for Penn College is scheduled for December 7th at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic starting at 9:30 am.
