Penn College's wrestling team participated in the Messiah University Chocolate Duals on Saturday, concluding with a 1-2 record. The Wildcats were defeated by Johnson & Wales, ranked eighth nationally, with a score of 42-9, and Shenandoah via criteria at 25-24. They secured a victory against Ohio Wesleyan, finishing 31-15.
The Wildcats now hold a 4-2 record in dual meets this season. Johnson & Wales ended their day with a 3-0 record, improving to 6-2 overall, while Ohio Wesleyan remained winless in three matches and is now 1-6.
In the match against Johnson & Wales, Patrick Snoke won by decision at the 141-pound category against Jake Eckerle, who is ranked sixth in the Northeast Region. TJ Martin contributed points for the team by scoring a fall at 149 pounds over Jordan Suarez, also ranked seventh in the Northeast Region.
Facing Shenandoah, Luke Heimbach (125), Kaden Ware (133), and Martin (149) all secured major decisions. Liam Goodrich (165) and Nicholai Brotzman (285) posted falls; however, a forfeit at the 184-pound category proved detrimental.
Against Ohio Wesleyan, Heimbach won by decision to finish his day with a 2-1 record. Ware achieved a technical fall to also complete a 2-1 day. Cavin Napoletano scored a technical fall at 157 pounds. Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni (197) and Brotzman (285) both won with falls. Martin won by forfeit to end his day undefeated at 3-0.
Additionally, Penn College fielded a second team that was defeated by Messiah College's second team with a score of 39-16. Michael Sandacz earned points with a fall at 125 pounds and Anton Esterbrook secured a major decision at 157 pounds. CJ Trimber had an undefeated day going 2-0, while Ayden Sprague won once in extra matches.
