Two wrestlers from Penn College have been recognized with the 2023-24 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America honors. The announcement was made by the organization on Wednesday, highlighting the academic and athletic achievements of these student-athletes.
Junior Noah Hunt, competing in the 141-pound category, has become the first four-time Scholar All-American in Penn College's wrestling program history. Freshman Travis Green, wrestling in the 165-pound category, also received individual honors. To qualify for this recognition, wrestlers must maintain a GPA of at least 3.2 and either place in a regional tournament or achieve a winning percentage of at least 66% over a season with no fewer than 15 matches.
"Through their unwavering dedication, these student-athletes and teams showcase a commitment that extends beyond the mat and into the classroom. Congratulations to each of this year's recipients," said Mike Moyer, NWCA Executive Director.
Hunt concluded his junior year with a record of 31 wins and 11 losses, boasting the highest winning percentage on his team at .738. His accomplishments include reaching the top spot at the AMCC Championships and placing third at Springfield's Doug Parker Invite. He also secured fourth place at the RIT Invite, sixth at Ithaca Invite, and eighth at the Mideast Regional Championship. As an accounting major, Hunt is notable for being Penn College's first three-time regional medalist with an overall career record of 84-39.
Travis Green earned his first Scholar All-America honor after achieving a team-best record of 36-17 during his freshman year. A Welding & Fabrication Engineering Technology major, Green medaled third at RIT Invite, fifth at Penn College Invite, and sixth at Ithaca Invite before finishing eighth in his debut season's Mideast Regional Championship.
In addition to individual successes, Penn College's wrestling team achieved its first-ever appearance on the national academic honors list by securing No. 23 with an impressive team GPA of 3.53.
