Penn College senior Noah Hunt has made history by becoming the second wrestler from the Wildcats to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship. This achievement follows his third-place finish at 141 pounds during the NCAA Division III Region 2 Championship held at Lycoming College.
In team competition, Penn College secured a tenth-place finish out of nineteen teams, marking their highest regional placement in program history. The Wildcats also set a record with five wrestlers reaching the regional podium. Alongside Hunt were T.J. Martin (149), Carter Davis (165), Isaac Cory (184), and Nick Woodruff (197).
Hunt, a four-time regional place-finisher, achieved a 5-1 record over two days, including two falls and a technical fall. His career record now stands at 103-45, with a season mark of 20-6. He secured his spot at nationals by pinning Wilkes' Ryan Santiago in 4:32 during the consolation semifinals and cradling Penn State Behrend's Cole Neil in 2:21 in the third-place match.
Freshman Carter Davis placed fourth after going 3-2, rebounding from a semifinal loss with a victory against Wilkes' Caleb Lawrence before losing to Lycoming's Kaiden Wagner. Isaac Cory finished fifth with a 4-2 record, ending with an injury default win in his final match. Nick Woodruff ended sixth after suffering two falls on Sunday following a promising start on Saturday. T.J. Martin completed the event in eighth place.
Stevens Institute won the team title with 153 points, followed by Ithaca and Wilkes among others in the top ten standings.
The upcoming NCAA Division III Championship is scheduled for March 14-15 at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island.
