Penn College's wrestling team narrowly lost to Lycoming College in a close match on Thursday night. The final score was 21-20, with Lycoming winning based on criteria after both teams were tied at 20 points. The decision came down to a 6-4 advantage in total bouts won by Lycoming.
The match started with Penn College taking an early lead. Kaden Ware secured a major decision at 133 pounds, and Noah Hunt followed with a technical fall at 141 pounds, putting the Wildcats ahead 9-4. However, Lycoming responded by winning the next two bouts, gaining an 11-9 lead.
Carter Davis brought Penn College back into the lead with a technical fall at 165 pounds, making it 14-9. But Lycoming regained control with consecutive decisions at 174 and 184 pounds, moving ahead again at 17-14.
Nicholas Woodruff turned the tide for Penn College by pinning his opponent at 197 pounds, giving the Wildcats a temporary lead of 20-17. The decisive moment came in the heavyweight bout where Nicholai Brotzman faced Robbie West. After tying at six points each in the first period, West edged out Brotzman with a final score of 9-7.
Despite this loss, Penn College showed significant improvement under first-year coach Dalton Rohrbaugh compared to their previous encounter against Lycoming in which they lost by ten points.
Penn College will compete next in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships scheduled for Saturday morning at Penn State Behrend.
