State Senator Gene Yaw has been reappointed as chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee for the 2025-26 legislative session. Yaw, who represents the 23rd District, has held this position since 2013. His reappointment was made by Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward.

Yaw expressed his commitment to advancing energy measures in Pennsylvania, stating, “As a legislator, I take very seriously my role in advancing measures that I believe will unleash Pennsylvania’s energy potential while improving our environment and protecting it for future generations.” He thanked Sen. Ward for her trust in him to lead the committee again.

The committee oversees the state's energy resources and development, including regulations, conservation efforts, public lands initiatives, surface mining policies, and oversight of air and water resources.

Ward praised Yaw's expertise in environmental and energy policy. “Sen. Yaw is a proven expert when it comes to environmental and energy policy and I am pleased to reappoint him as chairman of the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee for the 2025-2026 Senate legislative session,” she said. She emphasized Pennsylvania's role as an energy powerhouse and expressed confidence in Yaw's leadership.

Yaw plans to focus on responsible energy development and protecting the reliability of the PJM electric grid. He intends to reintroduce legislation related to these priorities, including establishing the Pennsylvania Baseload Energy Development Fund and creating Pennsylvania’s Independent Energy Office.

In addition to his role on the committee, Yaw serves on several boards and commissions related to environmental issues. These include positions with the Chesapeake Bay Commission, Environmental Quality Board, Pennsylvania Aggregate Advisory Board, and Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority.
