Pennsylvania College of Technology secured a pair of victories in their United East baseball doubleheader against Penn State Berks on Saturday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. With these wins, the Wildcats' record improved to 5-1 in the United East and 10-8 overall. The team claimed a decisive 19-2 win in the first game, followed by a narrow 7-6 victory in the second game.
In the first game, Penn College's offense was relentless, accumulating six runs in the sixth inning, five in the fourth, one in the fifth, and seven in the sixth. Dallas Griess led the batting efforts with five hits, including a triple, and five RBIs. Teammates Ethan Stahl, Levi Purnell, and Jaydon Goebel each added three hits, with Goebel hitting both a double and a triple. Shawn Townsend contributed with two hits, featuring an inside-the-park home run.
Griffin Vollman secured his second win of the season, pitching five innings and allowing one earned run on four hits. He also recorded four strikeouts and two walks.
In the second game, the Nittany Lions took an early lead, scoring five runs in the second inning after Nathan Gustkey's run-scoring double in the first inning put them briefly ahead. However, Penn College responded quickly, closing the gap in the second inning and overtaking the Lions in the third inning with contributions from Stahl, Townsend, Matt Munoz, Brandon Shane, and John Croasdale.
After the Nittany Lions tied the game in the fourth inning, Stahl's single in the seventh inning drove in the game-winning run. Gustkey led the offense with four hits, including two doubles, while Stahl had three hits. Griess and Croasdale added two hits each. Sam Staib earned his first win of the season, and Dillon Gallagher was credited with the save after pitching the final two innings.
