The Philadelphia Big 5 has announced its weekly awards in men's basketball, recognizing University of Pennsylvania's sophomore guard Sam Brown as the Big 5 Men's Player of the Week. This marks Brown's first career Big 5 weekly honor, following his recognition as Ivy League Rookie of the Week three times last season.
Brown achieved a career-high score of 30 points during Penn's victory over Columbia, with a final score of 93-78 at The Palestra. His previous record was 26 points set last year. During the game, Brown successfully made eight out of ten three-point shots, tying him for second-most in a game by a Penn player alongside five others. Among this group, he is one of only three to achieve this in just ten attempts. He maintained consistent performance with four out of five successful shots from beyond the arc in both halves and concluded with nine out of twelve from the field overall while also going four out of five at the foul line. In addition to scoring, Brown contributed three rebounds, two assists without turnovers, and two steals.
Penn currently holds a record of six wins and eleven losses overall and two wins and two losses within Ivy League play. The team has secured victories in their last two games and will host more Ivy League matches this weekend against Brown on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by Ivy-leading Yale on Saturday at 6 p.m.
