Senior Dylan Throop earned All-America honors for the first time at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin. Throop finished 27th in the men's 10k race with a personal-best time of 29:19.6. This achievement makes him the fourth man in his program's history to receive cross country All-America honors.
Throop is also the first Quaker to earn this award since Tom Awad, who achieved it in 2015 and 2014. He joins a distinguished group of Penn cross country athletes that includes Awad, Dusty Lieb (2002), and Dave Merrick (1975, 1971).
"Finishing 27th at the national championships and earning All-America honors is a remarkable achievement for Dylan," said director Steve Dolan. "It speaks volumes to the determination and commitment he has shown all season. To compete against the best in the country and come out in the top 40 is a huge testament to his hard work and dedication."
Dolan added, "I am extremely proud of Dylan and Luke's performance, and this is just the beginning of what both men can accomplish."
Teammate Luke Johnson completed his race in 188th place with a time of 30:39.31.
The Penn team will begin their indoor track and field season on December 6-7 by hosting the Penn Opener at the new Ott Center.
