State Senator Gene Yaw and State Representative Tina Pickett have announced that French Azilum, Inc., in Bradford County will receive $216,200 from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The funding is part of the Community Conservation Partnership Program.
The grant will support ongoing development at the French Azilum historic site located along the Susquehanna River in Asylum Township. Planned improvements include renovating a boat launch, constructing a comfort station, adding pedestrian walkways, creating a parking area, ensuring ADA access, and landscaping.
Senator Yaw commented on the project: “The project at the historic French Azilum will undoubtedly benefit our region and have a positive impact on recreational opportunities. I am pleased to see this important investment in Bradford County.”
Representative Pickett added: “This funding will go toward improvements to an easily accessible Susquehanna River ramp and other amenities at one of Bradford County’s premier attractions. Dedicated volunteers help to maintain the French Azilum, which draws visitors and residents alike who seek to learn and enjoy local history.”
The Community Conservation Partnership Program is financed through various state and federal sources such as the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund; Environmental Stewardship Fund; federal Land and Water Conservation Fund; Pennsylvania Trails Fund; Pennsylvania Heritage Area Program; and ATV Restricted Management Account Fund.
