Penn College's men's soccer team secured a victory over Gwynedd Mercy in a nonconference match held on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats improved their record to 3-2-1, extending their unbeaten streak to four matches, while the Griffins' record fell to 1-4-1.
The match saw Penn College take an aggressive approach despite having played the previous day. They outshot Gwynedd Mercy 13-4, with three of those being shots on goal. However, they were unable to score in the first half.
The decisive moment came in the 55th minute when Logan Stapleton was fouled inside the box, leading to Tommy DeGeyter scoring from a penalty kick. The Wildcats maintained their lead for the remaining 35 minutes, preventing Gwynedd Mercy from equalizing.
Cole Catherman contributed significantly by securing a clean sheet with three saves. DeGeyter and Alex Heiser each had two shots on goal, with six other Wildcats also testing the opposing goalkeeper. Penn College took eight corner kicks while not allowing any for Gwynedd Mercy.
Penn College is set to play again on Tuesday at 5 p.m., facing Pitt Bradford at UPMC Field.
