Penn College's women's and men's tennis teams faced off against Lycoming College on Saturday, resulting in a split outcome. The women's team secured a victory with a score of 7-2, while the men's team was defeated by the same margin.
The women's team achieved their first-ever win against Lycoming after 11 meetings. They won all three doubles matches and four singles matches. In doubles, Ellen Buckley and Lauren Peck triumphed at No. 1 with an 8-3 score, Faith Murray and Georgia Macensky at No. 2 with an 8-4 score, and Jordan Specht and Sofia Caspina at No. 3 also with an 8-4 score. In singles play, Buckley won at No. 1 (7-6, 6-3), Peck at No. 2 (5-7, 6-3, 10-6 tiebreaker), Specht at No. 5 (3-6, 6-4, 10-3 tiebreaker), and Caspina at No. 6 (2-6, 6-4, 12-10). Macensky lost her match in a three-set tiebreaker.
On the men's side, Penn College lost all three doubles matches and four out of six singles matches. However, Alex Norris claimed victory in his singles match at No.1 with scores of 7-5, 2-6, and a close tiebreaker of 10-8; Matt Williams also won his match at No.2 with scores of 7-6, 3-6 followed by a tight tiebreaker of15–13.
Following these results: the Penn College women are now standing strong with a record of two wins to no losses while their male counterparts are yet to secure their first win after two encounters this season; meanwhile Lycoming’s female squad remains winless from six attempts whereas their male colleagues have recorded two victories out from three fixtures so far this term.
