Penn College women's volleyball team faced a setback in their United East Conference opener, falling to Penn State Berks in straight sets, 3-0. The match took place on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Bardo Gymnasium. With this result, the Wildcats' record is now 0-1 in conference play and 4-10 overall. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions secured their first conference victory of the season, improving their overall record to 3-8.

In the match, Penn State Berks reached 25 points first in all three sets. Mackenzie Shoop contributed significantly with nine kills and was part of a collective effort that resulted in 12 team aces. For Penn College, Maggie Mangene led with seven kills.

Statistically, PSU Berks had a hitting percentage of .148 and effectively restricted the Wildcats to a negative hitting percentage. Cheyenne Stein from PSU Berks made six digs and added three service aces to her performance.

Looking ahead, Penn College is set for a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 7. They will face Arcadia at noon followed by Lancaster Bible at 2 p.m., with both matches taking place in Lancaster.
