Penn College's tennis teams faced defeat against St. Mary's College in United East play on Saturday. The men's team lost with a score of 5-0, while the women's team was defeated 6-0. Currently, the Penn College men hold a record of 1-3 in the United East and 2-4 overall. The women stand at 0-3 in the conference and 2-5 overall. On the other hand, St. Mary's men's team is undefeated in conference play with a record of 4-0 and an overall record of 7-3. Their women's team has a conference record of 3-0 and an overall standing of 6-4.
In the matches, Penn College's men dropped two singles and three doubles matches; four singles matches were suspended. The women's team lost three singles and three doubles matches, with three singles matches also being suspended.
Kyle Shuler had the closest singles match for Penn College men at the second position but was defeated with scores of 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, Paul Langbein-Alex Norris and Shuler-Logan Ogden both fought hard but lost their respective No.1 and No.2 doubles matches by identical scores of 8-3.
For the Wildcat women, Ellen Buckley-Cici Miller at No.1 doubles and Kassidi Lenhart-Emma Fox at No.2 doubles managed to win a game each in their respective matches.
Looking ahead, Penn College will compete against Penn State Berks in United East matches scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m.
