Alvernia triumphs over Penn College with strong performances from top-ranked wrestlers

Penn College faced off against Alvernia University in a wrestling match on Friday night, resulting in a 30-16 defeat for Penn College. The Wildcats now hold an 8-9 record in dual matches, while Alvernia stands at 16-2.

Kaden Ware, a freshman competing in the 133-pound category, scored a major decision victory with a 12-0 win over James King. Nicholai Brotzman closed the dual meet with a first-period pin in 1:36, marking his team-leading 15th pin of the season and maintaining his status as one of Division III's dominant wrestlers.

In matchups between National Wrestling Coaches Association regionally ranked competitors at three different weights, Alvernia claimed victories in all three. Avery Leonard, ranked 14th nationally and fifth in the Southeast Region at 141 pounds, achieved a 20-11 major decision over Noah Hunt, who is ranked fourth in the Mideast. Matthew Lackman, who is nationally ranked number one and a returning national finalist at 165 pounds, secured a 14-1 major decision over Travis Green, who ranks eighth in the Mideast.

Next up for Penn College is their "B" team's participation in Lycoming College's Rennie Rodarmel Invitational scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m.
