The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team faced a challenging match against Yale on Saturday at the Lee Amphitheater, resulting in a 74-58 defeat. A decisive 14-0 run by Yale in the latter part of the second half secured their victory.
Penn had previously narrowed the gap with a 10-0 run, getting within nine points when freshman Niklas Polonowski made a three-pointer. However, Penn struggled to maintain momentum, and Yale capitalized on this lapse to establish a commanding lead.
Following this loss, Penn's record stands at 9-12 overall and 1-5 in Ivy League play. Meanwhile, Yale continues its undefeated streak in the league with a 6-0 record and is 15-6 overall.
Freshman Sam Brown was Penn's top scorer with 20 points, matching his career high. Junior George Smith contributed eight points and six rebounds. Freshman Tyler Perkins also added eight points and six rebounds. Junior Nick Spinoso led with eight rebounds for Penn, while Junior Ed Holland III provided five points and four rebounds.
Yale's Danny Wolf achieved a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Matt Knowling scored 14 points, and John Poulakidas added 11. Bez Mbeng delivered eight assists without any turnovers.
In the first half, both teams experienced scoring runs. Yale initially led before Penn took a brief lead following a nine-point streak. However, Yale regained control and ended the first half ahead at 34-28.
The second half saw Yale extend their lead rapidly after an initial empty possession from Penn. The Bulldogs' performance left little room for Penn to recover despite efforts to close the gap later in the game.
Penn will conclude its series of Ivy League road games next Saturday against Princeton at Jadwin Gym.
