The University of Pennsylvania cross country teams participated in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at State College, Pennsylvania. The women's team achieved a third-place finish, led by junior Maeve Stiles, who set a program record. The men's team secured eighth place with senior captain Michael Keehan leading their efforts.
In the women's 6K race, Stiles finished fourth with a time of 20:15.3, marking the best finish and time in program history. "Stiles' fourth place finish ties the best finish at regionals in program history," according to official sources. Lily Murphy placed 16th with a time of 20:49.0, ranking fifth best in Penn's regional history for her first NCAA regional championship race.
Senior captain Lizzy Bader improved her previous course time by 18 seconds, finishing under 21 minutes. Olivia Morganti also set a personal record with her time of 21:07.4.
The men's team was led by Keehan's performance in the 10K race, where he finished 31st with a personal record of 30:52.2. His result is noted as "the best on the 10K course in Happy Valley since 2014." Other team members also achieved new career marks during this event.
The women's team's third-place finish ties their best historical result from 2016 at Penn State when they scored third with 99 points.
Looking ahead, Stiles and her teammates await confirmation for participation in the NCAA DI Championships scheduled for November 19 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
