Penn's Dylan Throop has been recognized as the Ivy League Men's Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement by the league on Tuesday.
Throop made a significant impact in the men's gold 8k race, securing fourth place during his season debut with a time of 23:31.7. He initially positioned himself at 31st at the one-mile mark but advanced into the top five by reaching the 5k checkpoint. At the 6.3k mark, he led a group of 394 athletes before finishing fourth in the 8k event.
Notably, Throop was the only athlete from the Ivy League to finish among the top five in Lehigh's gold races.
"It was great to see Dylan compete so well at the Paul Short Run," said director Steve Dolan. "This result was a very positive sign as to where his fitness is at this stage of the season. He is clearly a key low stick for our team and I'm looking forward to seeing what he and the team can accomplish when we get to championship meets later this fall."
The men's and women's cross country teams are scheduled to travel to Princeton, N.J., on October 18th for participation in the Princeton Fall Classic.
Recent weekly awards for Penn include Luke Johnson being named Ivy Men's Athlete of the Week on September 17th and Liam Going receiving similar recognition on September 24th.
