Penn College suffers heavy defeat against St. Mary’s in men’s lacrosse

Penn College's men's lacrosse team experienced a setback in their recent game against St. Mary's, losing 26-7 in a United East match on Saturday. This defeat ended the Wildcats' six-game winning streak, placing them at 0-1 in the conference and 6-3 overall. Meanwhile, St. Mary's improved their record to 1-0 in the conference and also stand at 6-3 overall.

The game began with St. Mary's scoring first, but Penn College quickly responded when Jake Small assisted Elliot Dotson to tie the score at 11:36 of the first quarter. However, St. Mary's then scored three consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead. The Wildcats narrowed the gap when Elliott Dotson connected with AJ Dotson for another goal, making it 4-2 with just over eight minutes remaining in the first quarter.

St. Mary's continued their offensive push, adding more goals before Owen Kupsey scored from an Aidan McFalls pass with less than a minute left in the quarter, bringing the score to 6-3 after one period.

In the second quarter, St. Mary's extended their lead by outscoring Penn College 8-2, resulting in a halftime score of 14-5. The Seahawks maintained their dominance throughout the second half as well.

Elliott Dotson and Owen Kupsey each scored two goals for Penn College during this matchup, while Ryan Twist made eleven saves as goalkeeper.

Looking ahead, Penn College will face Alvernia on Wednesday at 7 p.m., aiming to recover from this loss and improve their standing.
