Additional farmland in Pennsylvania's 23rd Senatorial District has been earmarked for preservation following the state Agricultural Land Preservation Board's approval of conservation easement purchases. This initiative aims to protect agricultural land for future generations, as announced by Senator Gene Yaw.
The recent approvals include two local crop and livestock operations and a dairy farm, contributing to a total of 1,837 acres across 19 farms in 16 counties that will be preserved. Specific sites include a 145-acre dairy farm in Anthony Township, Lycoming County; a 105-acre crop and livestock farm in Jackson Township, Tioga County; and a 118-acre crop and livestock farm in Lewis Township, Union County.
"Pennsylvania is setting the standard in farmland preservation by protecting our rich agricultural heritage for future generations," stated Sen. Yaw. "I am pleased to see state and local leaders working together to help strengthen our position as the nation’s leader in farmland preservation."
The Pennsylvania Agricultural Conservation Easement Purchase Program is committed to reducing the loss of prime farmland to non-agricultural uses. It provides funding that allows various government levels to purchase conservation easements from owners of quality farmland. The funds allocated during the Board's meetings are used by county programs to buy development rights for preserving farms on county waiting lists.
