State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz | Pennsylvania 76th Legislative District
Grant funding has been awarded to 24 first responder companies in the 76th District under the Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program. This was announced by Representative Stephanie Borowicz, who represents Clinton and Union counties.
The grant program is managed by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. It supports projects such as construction or renovation of facilities, equipment purchase or repair, training, and debt reduction for fire and ambulance services.
"Our first responders’ commitment to protecting our citizens is beyond admirable and I am grateful to see our local companies receive this funding," said Borowicz. "Thank you to every first responder across the 76th District, and Commonwealth for sacrificing to protect us."
In Clinton County, several volunteer fire companies received grants ranging from approximately $12,000 to $15,000. These include Avis Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Beech Creek Blanchard Volunteer Fire Company (both fire and EMS), Bucktail Medical Center, Castanea Volunteer Fire Company, Chapman Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Citizens Hose Company No. 5, Citizens Hose Company No. 1 Inc., Dunnstown Fire Company, Goodwill Hose Company No. 3, Haneyville Volunteer Fire Company, Lamar Township Volunteer Fire Company, Lock Haven Emergency Medical Service, Nittany Valley Volunteer Fire Company, Renovo Fire Department, Sugar Valley Community Volunteer Fire Company Inc., Volunteer Fire Company of Mill Hall, Wanye Township Volunteer Fire Company and Woolrich Volunteer Fire Company 1.
In Union County, Mifflinburg Hose Company 1 received a grant of $16,106.84; Union County West End Ambulance and Rescue Association received $11,600; Union County West End Fire Company received $13,739.88; William Cameron Engine Company's fire department received $14,609.59 while its EMS unit was awarded $15,000.
The funds are sourced from proceeds of slot machine gaming rather than General Fund tax revenue.
