State Senator Gene Yaw and State Representative Jamie Flick have announced the allocation of $330,000 to two projects in Lycoming County through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program.

Senator Yaw expressed his satisfaction with the funding, stating, “Funding for these projects will undoubtedly benefit our region and have a positive impact on recreational opportunities.” He also acknowledged Representative Flick's collaboration in securing these investments.

The Susquehanna River Walk Extension Trail Construction Project has been awarded $250,000. This project aims to complete a four-mile multi-use trail that will connect key areas in the Williamsport region, including links to the Lycoming Creek Bikeway and Susquehanna State Park. It is part of a broader initiative to finalize the Triple Divide Trail stretching from Lake Ontario in New York to Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.

Representative Flick highlighted the importance of this funding: “I’m thrilled to see this funding go towards projects that encourage residents and visitors to enjoy outdoor recreation in our community.” He emphasized how the trail system enhances tourism and promotes outdoor activities among locals.

An additional $80,000 has been designated for enhancements at Young’s Woods Park. Planned improvements include a walking trail with senior exercise amenities, bike racks, a rain garden, and pickleball facilities. Flick noted that these upgrades would make Young’s Woods Park fully ADA compliant and improve its service to neighborhood residents.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority was established in 2004 under Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development to manage economic stimulus programs. The Marcellus Legacy Fund was introduced in 2012 to allocate natural gas drilling funds for various greenway and recreational projects via the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program.
