Nearly four dozen fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in Pennsylvania's 84th District have been awarded over $647,000 in grant funding. This financial support comes from the Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, as announced by Representative Joe Hamm.

“Our communities are so fortunate to have such dedicated firefighters and emergency medical services personnel working to protect us and our loved ones,” said Hamm. “These grants are well-deserved and will help our brave first responders with their critically important and often dangerous jobs.”

The funds will be distributed among various organizations across Lycoming and Sullivan counties. In Lycoming County, recipients include Antes Fort Volunteer Fire Company receiving $12,018.46, Citizens Hose Company of Jersey Shore (Fire) with $15,030.95, and Muncy Area Volunteer Fire Company Inc. (EMS) granted $30,000, among others.

Sullivan County beneficiaries include Dushore Fire Company No. 1 (EMS) with a grant of $15,000 and Eagles Mere Volunteer Ambulance Association also receiving $15,000.

Eligible projects for these grants encompass facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification efforts, education outreach programs, as well as recruitment and retention strategies. Additionally, fire companies can apply for construction savings accounts for new facility construction purposes.

The ongoing funding initiative was established by the General Assembly of Pennsylvania. The funds originate from slot machine gaming proceeds rather than General Fund tax revenue. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with applications processed through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). Recipients must file their grant agreements with OSFC to receive their allocated amounts.
