The Senate Majority Policy Committee, led by Senator Dave Argall, is set to convene in Sunbury next week to discuss effective methods for combating blighted and deteriorating buildings in various communities. The public hearing will be hosted by Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver on February 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Northumberland County Administration Center.

Argall emphasized the widespread impact of blight, stating, "Blight affects us all by lowering our property values, straining the real estate market, hurting our schools, breeding crime, and posing a serious threat to our safety and well-being." He highlighted the importance of gathering insights from local officials actively engaged in addressing this issue to develop new legislation aimed at removing or repairing these structures.

Culver expressed gratitude towards Argall and the committee for focusing on this significant topic within her district. She remarked, "I’m also deeply appreciative of the panelists who will be sharing their expertise and insights with us. Blight is a complex issue with far-reaching consequences for our communities, and I’m hopeful that this hearing will lead to productive solutions."

The workshop discussion scheduled for Monday will include several testifiers. The event will be available via livestream on the Senate Majority Policy Committee’s website.
