The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has announced that several entities in the 23rd District will receive laptop computers through the Digital Connectivity Technology Program (DCTP). This program aims to provide technology devices to communities where affordability hinders broadband adoption and use, according to Senator Gene Yaw.

“This funding will help bridge the digital divide and ensure students, libraries, and nonprofit organizations in our communities have the devices they need to be successful,” Yaw stated. “I’m pleased to see this significant investment in technology for our region.”

In Bradford County, Child Hunger Outreach Partners in Towanda will receive 200 laptops, while United Way of Bradford County will get 40 laptops. In Lycoming County, Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport is set to receive 40 laptops. Union County Library System in Lewisburg will obtain 30 laptops.

Patrick Marty from Pennsylvania College of Technology expressed gratitude for the funding: “Pennsylvania College of Technology is incredibly grateful to the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority for this vital funding, which will help level the technological playing field for financially disadvantaged students.” He also acknowledged support from local officials including Sen. Gene Yaw and others.

The DCTP program is supported by $20 million in federal funding and aids public-facing community anchor institutions such as libraries, schools, municipalities, workforce training organizations, and other non-profits. The projects eligible for this program focus on providing devices that facilitate broadband internet access while advancing digital literacy and skills training.

To ensure transparency and track progress, PBDA requires grantees to submit quarterly and annual reports detailing project successes and accomplishments along with how access to technology impacts their community.

This round of awards aligns with Pennsylvania’s broader effort to improve digital access across the state by closing the digital divide and building more connected communities.
