State Senator Gene Yaw, along with State Representatives David Rowe and Stephanie Borowicz, announced that Union County Trail Authority has received $500,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. This funding comes through the Community Conservation Partnership Program (C2P2) and is designated for developing the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail in East Buffalo and West Buffalo townships.
The funds will be used to rehabilitate approximately six miles of trail. The project includes stormwater management measures, ADA access, and landscaping enhancements.
“These improvements to the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail will undoubtedly benefit our region and have a positive impact on our recreational opportunities,” stated Yaw. “I am pleased to see this important investment in Union County.”
Rowe added, “Thousands of local residents and visitors have walked, ran, and biked the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail since it opened in 2011. These grant dollars will help make improvements to a significant stretch of the 9.5-mile trail, and I am glad to see that money invested in this key recreational area.”
Borowicz commented, “Congratulations to West Buffalo Township. We live in a beautiful area of the commonwealth and this project will add to our recreational opportunities.”
The C2P2 program is supported by various state and federal sources including the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund; Environmental Stewardship Fund; federal Land and Water Conservation Fund; Pennsylvania Trails Fund; Pennsylvania Heritage Area Program; and ATV Restricted Management Account Fund.
