State Senator Gene Yaw has announced that the upcoming "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day" will take place on Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and encourages residents of Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union counties to dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs safely.

Senator Yaw highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Take Back Day is an excellent way to reduce drug abuse and misuse across the board. It’s not only about preventing people from stealing or abusing prescription drugs, but it’s also about preventing accidental use and overdose, especially by our senior population, and ensuring that unused drugs are disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.”

In April 2024, during the last National Take Back Day event, Pennsylvania law enforcement collected over 31,000 pounds of unused or expired medication. Since the inception of the National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative in 2010, more than 18.5 million pounds (9,285 tons) have been collected nationwide by the DEA and its partners.

Residents can find safe disposal drop-off locations on the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Program’s website. For additional information related to state news or updates from Senator Yaw's office, constituents are encouraged to visit his official website or follow him on social media platforms.
