Three archers from Pennsylvania College of Technology have been recognized with All-East Team honors following their performances at the Eastern Regional Outdoor Championship held in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Matthew Byrnes and Alex Edwards were acknowledged in the men's compound category, while Brady Fowkes received recognition in the men's fixed pins discipline.
During the competition, Penn College's archery team achieved notable results. The men's compound team consisting of Byrnes, Edwards, and Emery Gunsallus secured a second-place finish with a score of 1,889 points, narrowly trailing Alfred State College's team that scored 1,904 points. Individually, Byrnes led his team with a score of 678, placing first among competitors. Edwards finished fifth with a score of 642, and Gunsallus placed 13th with a score of 569.
In addition to their outdoor performance, Byrnes and Edwards' national indoor scores from February contributed to their All-East honors. Byrnes had previously scored 1,164 indoors while Edwards achieved a score of 1,134. Similarly, Fowkes earned his All-East recognition by combining his weekend performance with an indoor score of 1,183.
Individually within the men's compound category, Byrnes placed third overall. Edwards came in fifth place and Gunsallus took ninth out of fifteen participants. In the fixed pins category featuring ten participants, Fowkes secured fifth place while Jansen Balmer finished ninth. Grant Walters competed in the men's barebow division and finished fifth among five competitors.
Looking ahead, Penn College is set to participate in the USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals scheduled for May 19-21 in Statesboro, Georgia.
