Penn College's men's and women's tennis teams faced defeats in their United East home matches against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday. The men's team lost 2-7, while the women's team was defeated 0-9. Currently, the Penn College men hold a record of 0-2 in the United East conference and 0-6 overall, whereas the women are at 0-2 in the conference and 2-6 overall. On the other hand, St. Mary's men's team stands at 3-0 in the conference and 4-5 overall, with their women's team at 2-0 in the conference and 5-4 overall.
In the matches, St. Mary's men secured victories in four singles and three doubles matches. Their women's team won all six singles and three doubles matches.
For Penn College's men's team, Kyle Shuler achieved a win at No. 1 singles with scores of 3-6, 6-4, and a tiebreaker of 10-6. Matt Williams also secured a victory at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Logan Ogden at No. 4 singles and Jaydon Manbeck at No. 6 singles played competitive matches but lost in three-set tie-breakers.
Georgia Macensky had the most competitive match for Penn College's women's team at No. 3 singles but lost with scores of 4-6, 0-6.
The next match for Penn College is scheduled against Lancaster Bible College in United East play on Thursday at 3 p.m.
