The University of Pennsylvania's cross country teams are set to participate in their second event of the season at the Main Line Invitational in Haverford, Pennsylvania. The competition is scheduled for Friday, September 15, 2023, on the Haverford Campus. The women's race will cover three miles and start at 5 p.m., followed by the men's four-mile race at 5:30 p.m.
Since 2015, Penn has been a regular competitor at this invitational. The men's team has achieved top finishes several times, notably in 2017 and 2019. Last year, the women's team claimed their first victory with a score of 39 points. Bronwyn Patterson led the team with an individual win on a time of 17:31.5 for the three-mile course.
This year, representing Penn's women are Arielle Breuninger, Kiera Duffy, Trinity Eason, Sarah Fischer, Chloe Hassman, Camille Jordan, Kelly Murray, Bronwyn Patterson herself among others. On the men's side are Titus Bretzke, Nick Carpenter along with other teammates including Rory Lieberman and Will Shaughnessy.
Earlier this month during Labor Day weekend at the Lehigh Invitational both teams performed strongly. The women's team secured a perfect score of 15 points taking all top five positions led by Maeve Stiles with a winning time of 20:32.6 over six kilometers. They were closely followed by Olivia Morganti and Katie Pou among others.
Meanwhile in that same event Penn’s men finished second as a team scoring 37 points where Dylan Throop took home an individual victory clocking exactly eighteen minutes over six kilometers.
