Penn cross country women secure second at Battle in Beantown

The University of Pennsylvania cross country teams competed in the Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston College at Franklin Park, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The women's team secured second place with 101 points, while the men's team finished seventh with 149 points. The event is a precursor to the Ivy Heptagonal Championships scheduled to take place at the same venue next month.

In the men's 8K race, Dylan Throop led the Quakers with a third-place finish and a time of 23:51.4. Luke Johnson and Sahil Dodda also placed within the top 30, finishing 14th and 30th respectively.

For the women's team, senior Maeve Stiles achieved a third-place finish in the 5K race with a time of 17:06.9. She was followed by Olivia Morganti in sixth place and Lily Murphy in 27th place. Fabianna Szorenyi completed their top-30 finishes by securing the 29th position.

Additionally, another group from Penn's women's team participated in Lehigh's Paul Short Run on Saturday. Competing in the Women's Brown Race over a distance of 6K, they finished fourth with a total of 210 points behind NYU (69 points), Duquesne (161), and Lynchburg (173). Anastasia Russell was Penn's leading runner for this race, placing 18th with a time of 22:18.7. Laura Baeyens followed closely behind her in 23rd place at 22:24.6, while Chloe Hassman and Arielle Breuninger came in at positions 38th and 40th respectively.
