The University of Pennsylvania's cross country teams are set to participate in their final regular-season meet at the Haverford Invitational on Friday. The event, held at Haverford Campus, features a three-mile race for women starting at 4:15 p.m. and a four-mile race for men beginning at 5 p.m.
Penn has previously competed on this course earlier in the season during the Main Line Invitational. In that meet, the women's team secured a top finish, while the men's team placed fourth. Bronwyn Patterson led the women's team with a first-place finish, clocking in at 17:31.5. Laura Baeyens, who will compete again on Friday, finished second with a time of 17:46.5. On the men's side, Dennis Fortuna was the fastest Quaker, finishing 15th with a time of 20:08.6, followed by Matthew Fernando in 23rd place.
For this upcoming meet, Penn's women's team includes Laura Baeyens and several other athletes such as Arielle Breuninger and Kiera Duffy. The men's team roster features Titus Bretzke and Holden Emery among others.
In their last outing at the XC23 Invitational hosted by Virginia at Panorama Farms, junior Maeve Stiles led Penn's women's team to an eighth-place finish with her performance in the 5K race. Her time of 17:08.8 earned her 14th place individually. Luke Johnson spearheaded the men's efforts with his run on the 8K course securing him a spot within the top 50.
