Penn College secured a spot in the United East baseball playoffs for the sixth consecutive season with a decisive 12-3 victory over Lancaster Bible on Saturday. This win brings their record to 13-4 in the United East and 18-5 overall.
The Wildcats took an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning. Contributions came from Jacob Carles and Nathan Gustkey with RBIs, Tristan Current with a two-run single, and an error by LBC. The Chargers managed to score one run in the third inning and two more in the fourth, narrowing Penn College's lead to two runs. However, Carles' sacrifice fly in the fourth extended their lead to 6-3 before Current hit a three-run home run, pushing the advantage to 9-3. In the eighth inning, Carles added a two-run homerun followed by Cameron Dick's solo homer.
Quinn Hanafin had four hits for Penn College while Dick and Current each added three hits. Carles and Gustkey contributed with two hits each. Current drove in five runs during the game and was close to hitting for a cycle; Carles brought in four runs.
Pitcher Ben Bretzman improved his record to 4-3 after pitching six innings. He allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out five batters and walking two.
Penn College is set to play next at Penn State Altoona on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
