Led by Peyton Mussina's individual third-place tie, the Penn College golf team competed on their home course at Williamsport Country Club. Despite shaving 21 strokes off Saturday's 326 team total, they finished last in a 20-team field in the Northeast Elite Invitational.
Mussina opened play on Saturday with a 4-under 67 on the par 71, 6,516-yard WCC course and was tied for the individual lead with Hamilton's Ramon Aroca Gonzalez. Mussina shot even par on a rain-plagued Sunday to finish with a 138.
Other Wildcats' performances included Gunner Redmond who shot 83-74—157 and tied for 86th, Jordan Lestochi who shot 87-81—168 and ended up in the 102nd position, Matt Capoferri who shot 89-84—173 and was placed at 103rd, and Brett Keenan who shot 97-79—176 and was positioned at the 104th spot. Only the low four scores count toward the team total.
Trinity College led the field with rounds of 282-283—565. Following were Rochester University (285-288—573), Rensselaer (286-293—579), York College (303-278—581), Franklin & Marshall (288-293—581), Penn State Altoona (290-292—582), Hamilton (291-296—587), Westminster (289-299—588), St. John Fisher (293-296—589), Allegheny (295-296—591), McDaniel (296-295—591), SUNY Delhi (296-298—594), Albright (298-298—596), Swarthmore (301-297—598), Hartford (307-296—603), Mount Aloysius (302-301—603), Scranton (300-303—603), Dickinson (300-305—605) and Stevens Institute of Technology(303 -314 —617). Penn College finished with scores of 326 -305 —631 .
Individually, Gonzalez medaled in the 104-player field with rounds of 67 -68 —135 . York's Gavin Ganter was second at73 -64 —137 , while Trinity's Thomas Chalfant tied Mussina on rounds of70 -68 —138 .
Penn College will next compete in the Drew Birdie Bash at Flanders Valley Golf Course on Wednesday.
