Senior expo draws hundreds in Lycoming County

Hundreds of area seniors gathered at the Community Baptist Church on Thursday for a senior expo sponsored by state Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and state Rep. Joe Hamm (R-84).

“The amount of information out there for our older residents can be overwhelming,” Yaw said. “This free expo brought it all under one roof so our area senior citizens and their caregivers could ask questions and get answers on the spot.”

“It was truly a blessing to see so many in our community take advantage of all the resources found at our senior expo,” Hamm said. “Our senior expo is a one-stop shop and makes it easy for our senior citizens to find resources available to them. At a time when so many people are struggling to make ends meet due to high grocery prices, utility bills and prescription prices, our senior expo provides them with the information on programs and resources that are here to assist them.”

Nearly 100 exhibitors provided information on state programs and services available to area seniors. Vendors shared details about health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, financial planning, government services, and more. Complimentary document shredding was offered by North Central Sight Services. The Lycoming County Sheriff also provided a prescription medicine return drop box for unused or expired medications.

The event featured coffee and baked goods from Fox Den Coffee, LLC.

The legislators thanked the Community Baptist Church for hosting the event.

This marked the 15th year Sen. Yaw has held this event, previously with state Rep. Garth Everett and now with Rep. Hamm. No event was held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
