The Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) has been awarded a state grant exceeding $830,000 to extend natural gas service to the Keystone Potato Products and Espoma facilities in Foster and Frailey Townships. This was announced by Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Rep. JoAnne Stehr (R-107).

Ken Huebner, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SEDCO, stated, “Since 1952, the Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) has been dedicated to stimulating and influencing economic development in Schuylkill County. This project exemplifies our ongoing commitment to that mission.” He expressed gratitude towards Governor Shapiro, Senator Argall, Representative Stehr, the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), and the entire Schuylkill County legislative delegation for their support.

Huebner also acknowledged UGI Utilities for their partnership on this project which aims to retain over 100 full-time jobs in the area. He emphasized the significance of extending a natural gas line to the Interstate 81 and State Route 25 interchange for its potential to reduce operational costs and attract new businesses reliant on natural gas.

Senator Argall highlighted SEDCO's long-standing efforts in fostering economic opportunities in Schuylkill County. "Securing this highly competitive funding is just the latest of many successful efforts to further develop our local economy," he said.

Representative Stehr remarked on the positive impact this grant will have on local infrastructure and economic growth. “Enhancing access to natural gas services will drive economic growth and secure a brighter, more sustainable future for our community,” she said.

The state grant was provided through the Pipeline Investment Program aimed at extending natural gas distribution lines to existing employers. The funding was approved during a public meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
