State Senator Eugene Yaw | Pennsylvania
State Sen. Gene Yaw is urging residents living throughout Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union counties to participate in the upcoming “National Drug Take-Back Day,” sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The event is scheduled to take place this Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Take-Back Day is an excellent way to reduce drug abuse and misuse across the board,” Sen. Yaw emphasized. “It’s not only about preventing people from stealing or abusing prescription drugs, but it’s also about preventing accidental use and overdose, especially by our senior population, and ensuring that unused drugs are disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.”
During the last National Take-Back Day in October 2023, Pennsylvania law enforcement collected over 30,321 pounds of unused or expired medication. Nationally, the DEA, in collaboration with its law enforcement partners, has collected over 17,900,351 pounds (8,950 tons) of prescription medications since the inception of the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative in 2010.
Residents can find safe disposal drop-off locations in every county on the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Program’s website.
