State Senator Eugene Yaw | Pennsylvania
Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) recently visited the Prysmian Group's Williamsport facility to discuss the company's $22.5 million manufacturing expansion. Prysmian, a global leader in the energy and telecommunications cable industry, has received a $135,000 Pennsylvania First grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), along with additional funding from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) and the City of Williamsport.
"The investments in Prysmian's expansion not only bring good-paying jobs to the area and boost the local economy, but they also play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and resilience of the U.S. power grid," said Sen. Yaw. "Right here in Williamsport, Prysmian is helping to connect Pennsylvania to the world."
The expansion plans include a 51,000-square-foot addition to the existing facility to create more manufacturing space and a retention pond to handle increased stormwater run-off. This expansion is expected to create 27 new family-sustaining jobs in Lycoming County and retain 407 jobs statewide. Once completed, the expansion will double Prysmian's capacity to manufacture advanced transmission conductors with E3X® technology, enabling the transmission of more power without the need for additional physical infrastructure.
David Horton, Plant Manager at Prysmian's Williamsport facility, expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion, saying, "Expanding our Williamsport facility allows us to meet the increasing and changing needs of the power transmission and distribution market here in the U.S. We are thrilled not only to make this investment in our facility but also for the employees who contribute their hard work to our organization daily. Without them, we would not be able to make this significant impact on our region."
Prysmian Group is a leading manufacturer of underground and submarine cables and systems for power transmission and distribution. They also produce medium and low-voltage cables for the construction and infrastructure sectors, as well as optical fibers, copper cables, and connectivity systems for the telecommunications industry. With 28 manufacturing plants across North America, including the Williamsport facility, Prysmian plays a crucial role in connecting communities and powering essential industries.
This manufacturing expansion demonstrates Prysmian's commitment to innovation and growth in the energy sector. By increasing their manufacturing capacity, Prysmian will be better equipped to meet the growing demands of the power transmission and distribution market. This investment not only benefits the company but also the local community by providing new job opportunities and supporting the region's economic development.
