HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) is excited about his upcoming participation in the House Government Oversight Committee, where he aims to assess how local and state systems can best serve the people of Pennsylvania and prevent corruption, negligence, and fraud.

"I feel that I am a good fit for this committee because I do not accept money from special interest groups. Unfortunately, there's no shortage of corruption in our state. We all remember the 'Kids for Cash' tragedy that was uncovered in the northeast. I am hopeful this committee can help prevent future abuses and fraud," said Flick.

The House Government Oversight Committee's objective is to provide better legislative oversight on how tax dollars are spent and how state agencies operate. The committee is modeled after the House Committee on Oversight and Reform in the U.S. Congress.

"I am humbled to be on the Government Oversight Committee as the only freshman legislator, and apparently the first freshman ever assigned to this committee," said Flick.

Under the leadership of Rep. Morgan Cephas (D-Philadelphia) and Republican Chairman Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne), this committee has previously investigated business closures and the handling of nursing homes as part of former Gov. Tom Wolf's COVID-19 response, as well as the purchase of firearms by the Office of State Inspector General.

"We cannot afford, nor tolerate, corruption or incompetence at any level in the public or private sectors," said Flick.

Flick's appointment to the committee reflects his commitment to transparency and accountability. By refusing money from special interest groups, he aims to remain independent and prioritize the interests of the people he represents.

Flick's dedication to preventing corruption and fraud is particularly relevant given recent scandals, such as the infamous "Kids for Cash" tragedy in the northeast. By participating in the House Government Oversight Committee, Flick hopes to contribute to the prevention of future abuses and protect the integrity of the state's systems.

As the only freshman legislator on the committee, Flick recognizes the responsibility entrusted to him. He is eager to learn from his more experienced colleagues and contribute to the committee's efforts.

The House Government Oversight Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring that tax dollars are spent responsibly and that state agencies operate efficiently. By identifying and addressing areas of concern, the committee aims to improve the overall functioning of the government and protect the interests of the people.

Flick's enthusiasm for his new role is palpable, and he is determined to work alongside his fellow committee members to uncover any instances of corruption, negligence, or fraud. With a focus on preventing future abuses, Flick hopes to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Pennsylvanians.

"We cannot afford, nor tolerate, corruption or incompetence at any level in the public or private sectors," Flick emphasized.

As Flick takes on this new responsibility, he remains committed to serving the people of Pennsylvania with integrity and dedication. His presence on the House Government Oversight Committee is a testament to his unwavering commitment to uncovering and preventing corruption, fraud, and negligence.
