Farms in Schuylkill County have received funding from the Agriculture Innovation Grant program to implement advanced technologies. The announcement was made by Sen. Dave Argall (R-29), Rep. JoAnne Stehr (R-107), and Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-123).
Jersey Acres Farms, located in Wayne Township, has been awarded $100,000 for automatic milking robots. Keystone Potato Products in Frailey Township will receive $100,000 for robotics systems designed to fill retail bins with bagged potatoes. Sterman Masser in Hubley Township has been granted $200,000 to introduce new methods for potato farming and processing on the East Coast.
Michael Pechart, Chief Operating Officer of the Masser Family of Companies, stated: “Technology and innovation in the agricultural industry is rapidly driving tremendous amounts of positive change and growth opportunities.” He emphasized the importance of innovation to remain competitive both nationally and internationally.
Senator Argall remarked: “By supporting new technologies, we’re growing our local economy and creating new jobs.”
Representative Stehr commented: “These grants are a big win for our local agriculture industry, helping businesses embrace new technology and stay at the forefront of innovation.” She highlighted advancements by Keystone Potato Products and Sterman Masser in potato farming.
Representative Twardzik added: “Investing in agricultural innovation helps our local farmers stay competitive, boost efficiency, and ensure a strong future for Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry.” He expressed enthusiasm about Jersey Acres Farms' grant for automatic milking robots.
The Agriculture Innovation Grant program was established through the bipartisan 2024-25 state budget with over $10 million allocated to assist farmers in adopting new technologies.
