Yaw proposes act for natural gas electric generation projects

State Senator Gene Yaw, who chairs the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, has announced his intention to introduce the Grid Stabilization and Security Act. This legislation aims to address a shortfall in electric generation within the PJM-managed mid-Atlantic power grid.

The proposed act would require the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and the Department of Environmental Protection to collaborate on identifying appropriate sites for natural gas electric generation projects. "Since 2019, there have been no new investments in baseload electric generation in Pennsylvania," said Yaw. He emphasized the need for investment in new generation capacity to maintain Pennsylvania's status as an energy leader in the region.

Yaw has been actively involved in efforts related to energy development and ensuring grid reliability. In collaboration with legislators from Pennsylvania and Ohio, he participated in hearings last session focusing on challenges facing PJM. Additionally, Yaw has introduced several measures targeting grid reliability, including proposals for an Independent Energy Office in Pennsylvania and initiatives to protect the power grid from intentional harm.

He also plans to reintroduce a measure from last session aimed at establishing a Pennsylvania Baseload Energy Development Fund. For more information on state-related news, constituents are encouraged to visit Senator Yaw’s website or follow him on social media platforms.
