Nearly $27 million in state funding has been allocated by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to enhance water services in Hazleton and Mahanoy Township. This announcement was made by Sen. Dave Argall and Rep. Dane Watro.

"PENNVEST loans and grants are vital tools in supporting communities like ours across the Commonwealth," stated Watro. He emphasized that this funding will help local governments improve essential services, boost public health, and foster economic stability for residents and businesses. "I am pleased to offer my full support of these three important projects in the 116th District."

Argall highlighted the collaboration between state and local government officials: "These projects showcase what can be accomplished through dedicated partnerships." He expressed gratitude for the competitive funding that will enhance water services for numerous homes and employers.

The Schuylkill County Municipal Authority (SCMA) received over $8.2 million along with a low-interest loan exceeding $230,000 to build a new treatment facility and upgrade the water system in Morea Village. SCMA Executive Director Patrick M. Caulfield remarked on the importance of this project: "This initiative will ensure a reliable source of public water and fire protection for the residents of the Village of Morea." He also thanked Sen. Argall for his support, including efforts to resolve property ownership issues related to the project.

In addition, more than $16.2 million was awarded to the Hazleton City Authority to replace old waterlines on Buck Mountain and upgrade the Dreck Creek pump station significantly. Joe Zeller, Chairman of Hazleton City Authority Board of Directors, expressed gratitude: "We are beyond thankful for this significant grant award." He noted that it would help offset costs during their service expansion aimed at supporting local economic growth.

The Mahanoy Township Authority obtained a low-interest loan worth $2 million to start upgrading their aging water treatment plant.

PENNVEST supports sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects throughout Pennsylvania.
