Penn College's wrestling team saw three of its athletes achieve podium finishes at the 91st Wilkes Open, held in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The event included participants from NCAA Division I, II, and III teams, as well as club teams and unattached wrestlers from over 20 schools.
In the competition, Isaac McGregor (141 lbs) and Travis Green (174 lbs) both secured fourth-place finishes for Penn College. McGregor concluded with a 2-2 record, earning victories by major decision and fall but losing by major decision and technical fall in his final match. Green also finished with a 2-2 record, winning two matches by fall while experiencing losses by technical fall and pin.
Carter Davis (165 lbs) ended the tournament in fifth place after compiling a 4-1 record. He achieved three wins by technical fall and one by decision before reaching the maximum of five bouts allowed for the day.
Other notable performances for Penn College included Kaden Ware's 3-2 result at 133 lbs; Justin Adams' 2-2 at 125 lbs; Blake Dergham's 2-2 at 133 lbs; TJ Martin's 2-2 at 149 lbs; Isaac Cory's 2-2 at 184 lbs; Luke Heimbach's single win out of three matches at 125 lbs; CJ Trimber's similar result at 133 lbs; Ryan Trimber’s effort at 141 lbs; Cavin Napoletano’s performance at 157 lbs alongside Gavin Gomes; Cole Shupp’s effort at 174 lbs; Ronan Moynihan’s performance in the same weight class as Hunt went down due to medical reasons. Josh Howard faced challenges going winless across two bouts along with Ayden Sprague and Aiden Osborne who participated in their respective categories without success.
The Wildcats are set to participate next in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Duals on January 11th, hosted by Pitt-Bradford.
