The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team narrowly lost to Lafayette with a score of 65-63 on Tuesday night in Easton, Pennsylvania. The game was tied at 63-63 with just 2.5 seconds remaining when Lafayette's Mark Butler was fouled while driving the lane. Butler successfully made both free throws, securing the victory for Lafayette. Penn attempted a final play by passing the ball to George Smith near center court, but he was well-defended and unable to secure possession.

This result leaves Penn with a season record of 2-1, while Lafayette improves to 1-2 after facing its third Philadelphia Big 5 opponent this season.

In individual performances, junior Ethan Roberts led Penn with 14 points and contributed seven assists and six rebounds. Senior Nick Spinoso scored 13 points and matched his career high with four blocked shots. Sophomore Sam Brown also had a strong showing with 11 points and eight rebounds.

For Lafayette, Caleb Williams topped the scoring chart with 17 points, including four three-pointers. Misha Bednostin dominated the boards with a game-high of 15 rebounds.

The game began slowly for Penn due to travel delays caused by an accident on Route 22. Despite trailing early on, they managed to take their first lead in the second half before losing momentum towards the end.

Looking ahead, Penn will continue its Philadelphia Big 5 schedule by hosting Saint Joseph's at The Palestra on Friday as part of a doubleheader event.
