Quaker Meeting House (QMH) was set to discuss various sports events, including Ivy League field hockey and men's soccer. However, the focus shifted when QMH received an email on Saturday during a volleyball match between Penn and Yale. The email announced the passing of Tony Tenisci.

Tony's death came as a surprise to many, although QMH had some prior indication of his ill health from an email in October. A man from Adelaide, Australia, who had been in contact with Tony since the 1970s, expressed concern after not hearing from him for months.

Tony Tenisci was known for his vibrant personality and extensive travels. He was a Canadian of Italian descent who studied at Washington State University and spent time in Russia, Germany, Hawaii, and Australia. His stories from around the world were well-known among those who knew him.

Tony's voice was distinctive and memorable. He created the Mr. and Ms. Penn competition as a fundraiser for the track program, turning it into a major event on campus. This bodybuilding competition included participants from various backgrounds and became a campus sensation.

As a coach, Tony fought hard for his athletes, particularly field athletes who often receive less attention than track athletes. He developed strong relationships with his peers and introduced the women's hammer throw event to college track & field.

Despite his passion sometimes leading to disagreements, Tony moved forward without holding grudges. His impact on Penn Track & Field spanned three decades as he coached throwers and engaged with the community through events like Mr. and Ms. Penn.

QMH reflected on Tony's retirement in 2016 as an opportunity for him to enjoy life beyond coaching. His presence will be missed by many at Penn.

"RIP, Tony Tenisci. You will be missed."
