Penn College baseball faced Penn State Altoona in a nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in a split. The Wildcats won the first game 8-6 but lost the second 3-1. Currently, the Wildcats stand at 12-12, while Altoona is at 9-12.
In the first game, both teams were tied three times until Dallas Griess hit a decisive two-run home run in the sixth inning, covering 424 feet. Jaydon Goebel contributed by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and scoring twice. Brandon Shane and Jaiden Augustine each had two hits, including doubles. Sam Staib secured his first win of the season by pitching two scoreless innings.
During the second game, the Wildcats managed only three hits and four walks. Ethan Stahl drove in their sole run with an RBI single that brought Logan Hinnershitz home in the fifth inning. Pitchers Gabe Reptsik, Ryan Sawyer, and Ethan Eckard collectively achieved five strikeouts.
Next on their schedule is a United East series against Penn State Abington this weekend at Penn College. The series begins with a single game on Saturday at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader starting at noon on Sunday.
